3/5/2004 John Upp Just wanted to express my stoke on the great job with the reunion website. Looking forward to seeing the old Edison crew this coming July. Looking at all those yearbook pictures, I'm really glad I had the foresight to not have mine taken!!
4/1/2004 John Upp Kat Majors, I'll get you for that!! =:0)
4/5/2004 John Upp Hey Bob Gundry and Donna Graden, so nice to hear from you after so many years gone by. Have not heard from John Ellis since 1980, can't seem to locate him. Yeah still in sporadic contact w/ Bayless et al.
4/5/2004 John Upp Sorry Teddy, forgot to say hi to you! Hope all is well in Trabuco Canyon!
4/27/2004 John Upp Hello Bette Jo Botts (Greene)!!

Hope this finds you healthy and happy. I hope to see you at the reunion in July. I remember seeing you at the 10th in Newport, it's been a long time. Are you still in the area?? Been trading emails with Bob Gundry and Donna Graden, it's been interesting. Talk to you later.
4/29/2004 John Upp Bette,

So good to hear from you! As for myself, I'm in sales, work for a great company in Laguna Hills, selling technology to the masses. I live in Dana Point, so, unfortunately lunch is out. But I do frequently surf down south your way so you never know. I have a 16 year old son who thinks he is 25, you know how that is. He is really a great kid, unlike the kid I was!! Wow three kids! Love mine to death but am very glad I stopped at one! I am really looking forward to seeing you again, keep in touch.

John
5/6/2004 John Upp I had heard the Rick Purnell died of an apperant heart attack and Darrell Durfee in an auto accident. I've driven with Darrell and while it's sad that he's gone he was a horrible driver. Matt I don't know about. Sad.
5/12/2004 John Upp Bette,
You were HOT in high school, some of us were just too stupid/stoned to notice! When it comes to hair, I could care less what color mine is, I'm just really glad to have most of it!! Tammy, thanks so much for your email, really looking forward to seeing you again and looking forward to going to OZ. Margaret River is one of the dream spots I'd love to surf. I don't know if you remember but my Dad was in the car business alot of years and speaks highly of your family. Where is Russell Hansen, if anybody knows where he is, tell him he needs to be there in July. Anybody know the whereabouts of Mike Horne, Frank Lieberman, Tom Tedesco, the Bennett Brothers, Ginny Brown, Lynette LeBlanc, Danny Dumas, lordy I could go on and on here. Just have to wait for July!
5/13/2004 John Upp Hey all,

Bette, I'm going to take you up on that drink, but it'll have to be Saturday as I don't think I'll make Friday night. Very early morning on Saturday so we'll see. Jerry Juergens, I'll be damned! There's a name I remember, were you not pals with Tom Tedesco?? I surf O-Side most of the winter months, south jetty depending on the swell direction. Heck, I may even have cut you off a time or two! What a commute, O-side to FV! If I remember correctly, and that's not as easy these days, didn't you know Mike Whelan pretty well? He is happy and healthy on Oahu, been there almost 30 years and we keep in touch. Madonna, yeah, Mike Carter, I'd forgotten all about him. He, if memory serves, came from an interesting family. Yeah Bob, LeBard park, they used to call it "smokers field". I have fond memories of teen age make out sessions at that park. Learned a thing or two on that hollowed ground! Talk to you all later, keep the emails coming gang, this is fun!
5/14/2004 John Upp Jerry,

Yeah, Tamaracks, surf there once in a while, Swami's, Terra Mar, Pontos and Cardiff as well. Love to hook up and get some waves with you sometime. Summertime you can usually find me at Doheny as it's a mile from my house so when the south's are running I can get a session in before work and another after work as well. Used to run to San O but it's a kook duke these days. Some days you have to wait 2 hours to get in and line is full of Cadillac Escalades and Ford Expedition's if you know what I mean, sad. Mind if I use your "memory function" line, good one!
5/17/2004 John Upp Julie Hinkle,
Great memories, a walk down memory lane. Being bussed to Dwyer, walking through the tomato fields, the Buck Rogers plane, I'd forgotten all about that. It sure was a big difference going from Dwyer (looks like a prison) to the ultra modern Geisler with the space age lunch area! Maybe not in Home Ec, but in "Bachelor Living" we had a lovely, but ditzy teacher, and we were making those brownies. I had read that Mr. Hoyland went to prison on smuggling and money laundering charges. That was quite some time ago so maybe he's out by now. The Surf theater, the Golden Bear, the Greek's surf shop, main street and the pier. Boy, I do sometimes miss those days, when I get up to Huntington these days it amazes me how much it's changed. Ah, progress.
5/21/2004 John Upp Oh the hours we spent in that place! Loved those combos! Yeah Madonna, I remember the glass and cigarette game. I learned to love coffee at Bob’’s. I remember the night one of our fellow classmates who may have been mentioned earlier lit up a fattie and proceeded to smoke it like it was no big deal, it wasn’’t until HBPD showed up and escorted him downtown. Susan, Mr. Hoyland was a great teacher but he was high as a kite most of the time. Remember he used to eat the whole orange, peel and all. Aloha to you Brian Powers, I do remember you, albeit a little fuzzy. Most of my time surfing in the early years was done blind as Ray Charles. I used to wear coke bottle glasses so I couldn’’t see much in the water. I always bought red, yellow or orange surfboards so if I lost one in the water I had a better chance of finding it on the beach! Thank Buddha for disposable contacts! Brian, do you happen to now a guy named Gaylord who lives in Kona? Excellent surfboard shaper and maker of fine ukulele’’s. Last I heard Steve (Bonita) Smith was in Wyoming working construction. Steve Smith, now there was a character. That guy ate like a horse, most Mom’’s screamed in terror when he walked into their kitchens! I remember in 8th grade woodshop (Mr. Lavin?) he was working the lathe and had a chunk of hair yanked out of his skull. Anybody remember Mr. Lavin? Ice cream fights at Farrells after the football games? Billy Rutherford and Brian Edwards, where are you?
5/28/2004 John Upp Jane Horan Horwitz,

Glad to see your still kickin' girl! Hong Kong, wow, talk about getting away from HB! It must be an interesting place for your kids to grow up in, different worldview altogether I suppose. I really hope to see you again Jane, it's been along time. I'm planning on going to Saturday nights gig w/ Cathie B. so you gotta come! It's only what, 15 hours by air? :(. Tammy's coming so you have to as well, right? Hope to see you in July.

JU
6/8/2004 John Upp Kat,

Board shorts, tee-shirts and sandals work for me! On a lighter side, I do not wear ties for any reason anymore. Those days are thankfully over for me. I think people should wear what ever they want, maybe we should dress in 70's clothes. Anything but a suit and tie. Just a thought....

Later,
John
6/10/2004 John Upp Guys,

If I recall correctly, and that isn't easy these days, Joe the Lot Cop was at least 60 something. Somehow I don't think he's gonna make it to the reunion :( Kat, am I going to have to buy a clip-on tie to gain admittance? See you all in July.

We could do what other sites do and make this as long and painful to read as possible, get a bunch of lawyers involved and find the most obscure English words possible, but why?
