James Hatfield Hi all Jim Hatfield here. Charger Class of 1974! My brother told me about this site. VERY IMPRESSIVE! Well I've spent the two hours reading through the posts and checking photos, wow lots of memories rekindled. I regret missing the reunion, of course didn't know about it until now. Well thirty years; we've seen Presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton and now another Bush. Disco, Michael Jackson, The Blues Brothers, Line Dancing, and Grunge have come and gone. Computer's and game consoles were just entering homes, now most homes are wired to a worldwide network. amazing. Well ecstatically married for 25 years, and to think, to the same woman!? We have 3 son's Scott 23, Shawn 20, Evan 19. Scott is in Baqubah Iraq 1/2 way through his first tour. Shawn is in his 2nd year of college. Evan just graduated from high school. I stayed in HB until 1988 when we decided to bail from the urban crush and moved. Since then we have lived here in Mill Creek Washington about 20 miles north of Seattle.

I have missed the smell of the beach and the sound of the surf but was very disappointed last february when I visited HB. The beach by the Pier no longer has the sweet smell it once did or at least the fresh smell my mind recalled. It was a little cold to go body surfing so I passed this visit (I know I'm a wimp). I visited EHS, Dwyer and my old house on Christine Dr. Truly stirred memories. Best wishes to you all.

James Hatfield "There are a few roll-backs that I know of -- one is relaxing Clinton's proposed ban of snowmobiles in Yellowstone--a rollback, but minor."

My problem with this "roll-back" was not that it allowed more snowmobiles in Yellowstone it was THE FACT that the rule change was DONE WITHOUT PUBLIC REVIEW. The Yellowstone winter use plan was a 3 year process that took into account concerns of the Park Service, Businesses, environmental concerns and concerns of the PUBLIC at large. Mr. Bush trashed all of the hard work all sides put into the agreement and MADE HIS CHANGE USING EXECUTIVE ORDER. Well if I wanted that kind of government I would live in Haiti.

I'm voting for Kerry but Washington isn't a swing state so we'll just vote Kerry and follow kicking and screaming if Bush is elected :)

James Hatfield "I simple disagree with you that the majority of Iraqi people view the US as having invaded their home. Ayad Allawi, Iraqi Prime Minister in a recent interview has stated that Ninety percent of the Iraqi land is ready for full elections."

Well Glenn of all the Iraqi's my son has spoken to in the past 6 months he would tell you 100% view the US as invaders. Most are grateful we deposed Saddam but wish we would leave - soon. Many wish we would leave now. And some think we have been there too long already (those are the one's we're fighting). As far as Allawi, he's a puppet of the U.S. I can only hope we don't try to install him as El Presidente. Of course the true sign of a successful democracy is the transfer of power after elections and that we will not see for some time.

Just a question: If a legitimately elected Iraqi government decides to support Jihad or fundamentalist terrorism what will we do?

James Hatfield 50 what a large number, half a century.

I'll be 49 in two weeks and I know I was one of the younger member's of the Class of 74 last to get a driver's license and graduating at 17 1/2 years old was a little tough since a lot of the "good" jobs preferred 18 year olds.

Now I'll be one of the last to reach 50 (which feels kinda nice in a perverse way)

How do you all feel about the BIG 50?

Jim Hatfield Well quite a dry spell for posts.

As we come upon another Labor Day and the kids (and grandkids) head back to school I hope everyone has had a great summer.

Aloha

James Hatfield Ahhhhh, beach fires, how much I miss them.
Last weekend made the trip from AZ to The City Beach and had a beach fire. The boys flew in from Anchorage, Chicago and Bahrain. Boiled up corn on the cob, bbq'd shrimp and steamed some clams. A fantastic day celebrating 33 years with my wife.

There was also the bittersweet burial at sea of my wife's parents. I must thank the Sea Scouts of Newport Harbor for their hospitality. Chet and Louise were laid to rest off Corona while a pod of dolphins passed.

I've missed the beach over the years. Might have to make another trip in September, always liked the gentle slope of the beach in the Fall.

To All, live long and prosper.

James Hatfield Any plans for a 40 year reunion yet?

I'm in Phoenix and could use a cool weekend next June or July.

We could do what other sites do and make this as long and painful to read as possible, get a bunch of lawyers involved and find the most obscure English words possible, but why?
